Rwanda Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva met Tuesday with the European Union’s ambassador to Rwanda, Belén Calvo Uyarra, to reinforce cooperation between Rwanda and the European Union.
The talks, held at the prime minister’s office, focused on strengthening existing partnerships, according to a government statement.
The EU remains one of Rwanda’s key development partners. In October 2025, the bloc provided 95 million euros ($103 million) to support German biotechnology company BioNTech in establishing vaccine manufacturing operations in Rwanda, part of broader efforts to expand pharmaceutical production in Africa.
In November, Rwanda, the EU and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees signed a three-year agreement aimed at improving livelihoods for refugees and host communities.
The project is expected to assist 3,200 refugee households and 800 Rwandan families, helping them achieve greater economic self-reliance through income-generating activities and access to essential services.
