The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has announced that the country is expected to experience heavier-than-usual rainfall during the second half of November 2025.
In its forecast covering Nov. 11–20, Meteo Rwanda projects rainfall between 30 and 150 millimeters, exceeding the long-term average for this period, which typically ranges from 25 to 90 millimeters.
The agency said most areas will experience rain for three to five days, depending on local conditions.
“The expected rainfall will be influenced by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) located over the region,” the report said. “Temperatures are expected to remain around the seasonal average.”
The heaviest rainfall, ranging between 120 and 150 millimeters, is forecast in the Western Province, except for the eastern parts of Karongi and Ngororero districts and the Bugarama valley. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the Northern Province, except for the southern parts of Gakenke, Rulindo, and Gicumbi districts, as well as in northern Muhanga District and the western parts of Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts.
Rainfall between 90 and 120 millimeters is expected in the northern and western parts of Kigali City, the Bugarama valley, most areas of the Northern, Western, and Southern provinces (excluding the Amayaga region), and in the western parts of Bugesera, Gatsibo, and Nyagatare districts.
Moderate rainfall, ranging from 60 to 90 millimeters, is forecast for the remaining parts of Kigali, Bugesera, the Amayaga region, Rwamagana District, much of Kayonza and Ngoma, and the central parts of Nyagatare and Gatsibo.
The Eastern Province is expected to receive lighter rainfall, between 30 and 60 millimeters.
Meteo Rwanda urged the public to take preventive measures against possible impacts of heavy rain and strong winds by following guidance from disaster management authorities.
“Given the above-average rainfall and expected strong winds, residents are advised to remain vigilant and comply with safety instructions issued by relevant institutions,” the agency said.
