Rwanda’s Cabinet on Wednesday approved an agreement between the government and Bauhaus International Ltd aimed at improving housing development in the country.
Bauhaus International Ltd is a housing and construction development company that operates mainly in Nigeria through its parent company, Bauhaus International Group. The company focuses on residential, commercial and mixed-use real estate projects, combining modern architectural design with sustainable construction practices.
Earlier this year, in January, Bauhaus International signed an agreement with the City of Kigali to build 892 housing units in Gahanga, a neighborhood in Kicukiro District.
The housing project will cover 12.8 hectares of land. Authorities say compensation for 121 landowners affected by the development is expected to cost about 7.9 billion Rwandan francs.
Residents whose properties are affected will have two options: they can receive new homes within the development under a rehousing program or opt for financial compensation.
The project is part of broader efforts by Rwanda to expand access to planned and affordable housing, particularly in the rapidly growing capital.
In September 2023, Rwanda, through the Rwanda Housing Authority, also signed an agreement with Bauhaus International to develop affordable housing in Kigali.
Bauhaus International is affiliated with Bauhaus International Incorporated, which is registered in New Jersey in the United States and supports broader housing and real estate development initiatives.
