ILPD is active in promoting gender in Rwanda

The Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) is located in Nyanza District, Southern Province. It is a public institution created in 2006 by the law No 22/2006 that was repealed by the law No 65 / 2013.


ILPD has a mission of contributing to the development of justice in Rwanda and in the region through offering professional trainings (postgraduate programmes: Diploma in Legal Practice (DLP) and Diploma in Legislative Drafting (DLD) to persons who hold at least bachelor’s degree in Law. ILPD also offers Continuing Legal Education (CLE) to legal practitioners working for both public and private institutions. ILPD conducts research on various areas of law. ILPD’s motto is” Excellence in Legal Practice”. ILPD started to officially offer its services in 2008. Over five (5) years, since 2011, the postgraduate programme (Diploma in Legal Practice) was offered to 1036 students whose 36.5% was female. With regard to ILPD staff, so far 22.5% of ILPD member staff is female. In order to promote gender within ILPD, ILPD has adopted a gender policy and has put in place a gender committee which is in charge of the performance of activities relating to gender within ILPD and the promotion of gender equality within ILPD. In addition, in each ILPD annual budget there is a budget line for gender activities.
