The General Manager of Inyange Industries, James Biseruka, announced that their newly produced powdered milk, currently targeted primarily for industrial use, will be available on the Rwandan consumer market by September 2025. This means that ordinary Rwandans will soon be able to purchase and use the powdered milk for everyday consumption.
Biseruka made the announcement on August 8, 2025, during a visit by Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva to the Inyange powdered milk factory and the East African Granite Industries stone roofing factory, both located in Nyagatare District.
During the visit, Prime Minister Nsengiyumva commended the factories’ operations and encouraged them to increase production to expand their markets domestically and internationally.
Biseruka explained that the Prime Minister advised prioritizing the domestic market before expanding abroad. “The first advice we received was to find ways to increase milk production, both among farmers by improving milking volumes and within the factory to operate at full capacity. We must first satisfy the local market before seeking export opportunities,” Biseruka said.
Since the powdered milk factory became fully operational, the company has focused on producing powdered milk primarily for industrial users such as ice cream and yogurt manufacturers and bakeries requiring milk for their products.
Biseruka assured that by September, consumers will see powdered milk similar in quality and form to popular brands like Nido on local shelves. “The powdered milk we have been producing so far goes mainly to industries for making ice cream, yogurt, and bread. But very soon, we will start producing powdered milk for general consumer use, like Nido. You will see it on the market in a few days,” he said.
The factory has obtained all necessary certifications to enter international markets and is also supporting dairy farmers to increase milk yields. The number of milk collection centers partnering with the company has increased from 43 to 139 across the country.
Inyange’s powdered milk products have already found export markets in countries including Turkey, Syria, Tanzania, Ghana, Oman, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Qatar, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and several others.
Currently, the Nyagatare powdered milk factory is operating at about 31% of its intended production capacity. Company officials say this is a promising start for a new factory, with expectations that output will steadily increase over time.
