Rwanda’s National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has released the timetable for boarding students returning to school for the first term of the 2025–2026 academic year. Students are expected back between September 5 and September 8, depending on their districts of residence.
According to NESA, the staggered schedule is meant to ease travel congestion and ensure smooth coordination.
On Friday, Sept. 5, students from Ruhango and Gisagara in the Southern Province; Ngororero in the Western Province; Musanze in the Northern Province; and Ngoma and Kirehe in the Eastern Province will travel.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, students from Nyanza and Nyamagabe (Southern Province), Nyabihu and Rubavu (Western Province), Rulindo and Gakenke (Northern Province), and Rwamagana and Kayonza (Eastern Province) will report.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, students from Huye and Kamonyi (Southern Province), Rutsiro and Karongi (Western Province), Gicumbi (Northern Province), and Nyagatare and Gatsibo (Eastern Province) will return.
On Monday, Sept. 8, the final group will include students from Muhanga and Nyaruguru (Southern Province), Rusizi and Nyamasheke (Western Province), Bugesera (Eastern Province), Nyarugenge, Gasabo and Kicukiro (Kigali City), and Burera (Northern Province).
NESA urged parents to strictly follow the timetable, send children early in the day — no later than 11 a.m. — ensure they are in school uniforms, and prepare transport fees in advance, including return fares for holidays.
Local authorities were tasked with monitoring the exercise and encouraging compliance, while school heads were directed to prepare facilities, set up hygiene inspection teams, and ensure adequate food supplies.
Students traveling through Kigali will board buses at Kigali Pele Stadium in Nyamirambo. Each student is required to travel on the date designated for their home district.
