RwandAir, Rwanda’s national airline, has welcomed two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft to its fleet as part of plans to expand passenger and cargo operations. The airline announced the additions Wednesday via its social media platforms.
The first aircraft arrived in early August and has already begun operating flights, while the second landed Tuesday night. Each plane carries up to 174 passengers and will serve short- and medium-haul routes.
The Boeing 737-800, produced in the United States, first entered the market in 1966. In late 2022, RwandAir acquired its first cargo version, the Boeing 737-800SF, which can carry at least 23 tons of freight. The aircraft measures 39.5 meters in length, has a wingspan of 35.8 meters, and stands 12.6 meters tall.
RwandAir has steadily increased cargo transport, moving 6,113 tons in 2024, up from 4,595 tons in 2023. The airline plans to acquire another Boeing 737-800 to help transport agricultural products to markets efficiently.
The airline’s current fleet includes four Boeing 737-800NG, two Boeing 737-700NG, two CRJ900NG, two Bombardier Q-400NG, and two Airbus A330 aircraft.
