Rwanda Medical Supply (RMS) has signed a partnership agreement with Philex, a pharmaceutical and medical equipment company with operations in Qatar and Oman, to increase the availability of essential medicines in Rwanda, including treatments for cancer, cardiovascular disease and hypertension.
The deal, signed Sunday in the presence of Rwanda’s Ambassador to Qatar Igor Marara, is seen as a step forward in strengthening health-sector cooperation between the two countries.
Philex, headquartered in Oman’s Salalah industrial zone, manufactures a wide range of medicines using advanced technology. The company is recognized internationally for producing safe, professionally packaged pharmaceuticals and says it is committed to supplying affordable drugs and medical equipment across the region.
As part of the agreement, Philex will work with Rwanda’s Labophar Ltd. to supply tablets and powdered medicines to the country.
The partnership builds on growing ties between Kigali and Doha. In 2024, President Paul Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s strong relations with Qatar during a major international security conference, noting joint projects such as the expansion of Bugesera International Airport and closer collaboration between the two nations’ airlines.
Officials say the latest health agreement reflects Rwanda’s broader strategy of leveraging international partnerships to improve public welfare through investments in healthcare, education, food security, technology and industry.
Beyond economic cooperation, Rwanda and Qatar have also deepened collaboration in defense and security.
