The Rwanda women’s national basketball team has kicked off training camp ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament, set to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from July 25 to August 3.

Head coach Dr. Cheikh Sarr called up 18 players to begin preparations, from whom he will select the final roster for the continental championship.

Most players have reported to camp, except for guard Ineza Sifa, who is currently in the United States, and forward Bella Murekatete, who is based in France.

The training squad includes REG WBBC stars Mushikiwabo Sandrine, Tetero Odile, Irakoze Ange Nelly, Umunezero Lamla, Mwizerwa Faustine, Micomyiza Rosine Cisse and Butera Hope. APR WBBC is represented by Uwizeye Assouma, Umugwaneza Charlotte and Kantore Sandra.

Also in camp are Uwimpuhwe Henriette from Kepler WBBC, Karinganire Gahozo Kellia from Azomco WBBC, Ishimwe Rebecca of The Hoops and Vanessa Prissy Camara.

Sifa recently joined Grand Canyon University in the U.S., while Murekatete plays for Toulouse Métropole Basket in France. Both are expected to join the team ahead of the tournament.

Rwanda is placed in Group A alongside defending champions Nigeria and Mozambique.
At the 2023 AfroBasket held in Kigali, Rwanda achieved a historic fourth-place finish — its best performance to date in the competition.
