Rwanda’s delegation to the 22nd East African Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games arrived in Kakamega on Wednesday evening after a long journey from Kigali.

The team, comprising 262 students and 74 officials and coaches, departed Kigali early Tuesday and crossed into Uganda via the Kagitumba border before entering Kenya at Busia in the late afternoon.

“It was a long journey from Kigali to Kakamega, about 800 kilometers, but we are glad to have arrived safely,” said Luke Karemangingo, president of Rwanda’s Federation of School Sports and Culture (FRSS). “Other countries had already reached here. Our goal is to compete hard and achieve good results.”

Rwanda is represented by 21 teams competing across eight sports: football, basketball, 3x3 basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, netball, and athletics. The delegation includes 105 girls across nine teams and 157 boys in 12 teams.

Other participating countries include host nation Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and invited team Côte d’Ivoire.

The opening ceremony for the 2025 Games is scheduled for Friday, with group-stage matches beginning Thursday.
