AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA, a youth-focused NGO, has launched a multi-stakeholder technical committee aimed at strengthening Rwanda’s workplace learning system and improving employment opportunities for young graduates.
AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA has officially launched a multi-stakeholder Technical Working Committee to strengthen Rwanda’s workplace learning (WPL) system and improve internship and apprenticeship opportunities for youth.
The launch, held on Friday, September 19, 2025, was conducted in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Never Again Rwanda.
The committee brought together representatives from government institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society, and development partners. Its mandate is to tackle critical challenges in workplace learning, including limited internship opportunities, under-equipped companies, lack of mentorship, and absence of standardized programs.
"Strengthening workplace learning is crucial for inclusive employability in Rwanda," said Julius Kwizera, Executive Secretary of AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA.
"The committee will help young graduates, including persons with disabilities, gain relevant skills and transition smoothly into the workforce. By bridging education and employment, we contribute to national development goals such as NST2 and Vision 2050."
The committee will also develop a roadmap for action, define clear roles and responsibilities for stakeholders, and foster collaboration to ensure WPL programs are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with Rwanda’s economic priorities.
Real-life impact of workplace learning was showcased by beneficiaries. Gihoza Marie Claire, a recent graduate, joined CND Industries through an internship facilitated by the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB).
"This internship gave me the chance to continue my studies while gaining work experience," Gihoza said. "After graduation, I was fully employed and now train other interns."
Another trainee, Innocent Ndayisenga, praised CND for offering him the opportunity. "Internships are not easy to find, and I am grateful for this experience," he said.
Employers also see the benefits. Richard Rukundo, Human Resource Manager at CND Industries, said the committee will help coordinate efforts to build a skilled workforce. "By involving all stakeholders, we strengthen our workforce and contribute to national growth," he added.
AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA has a long history of promoting youth empowerment through enterprise development, life skills training, and policy advocacy, including restoring government scholarships, reversing increased court fees, and improving community-level gender-based violence mechanisms.
The launch of this technical committee marks a significant step toward creating a structured, inclusive, and sustainable workplace learning system in Rwanda, ensuring that internships become a meaningful stepping stone toward employment for all youth.
